SAS was asked to develop a study and design proposal for the Center for Jewish History, a cultural institution based in New York. The Center is shared by five different organizations, each with their own cultural and academic goals. In an effort to consolidate the presence of the institutions into one, the center’s board members considered it necessary to establish a global standard for the building. The aim of the proposal by SAS addresses the public areas of the building, to create a new common ground for its daily users. SAS proposed a strategic project in three phases: the renovation of the visual identity of the center, the reorganization of different floor partitions, and an addition on the roof level of the existing structure. The sequencing of the project allows the center to transform progressively in relation to programmatic needs and budget constraints.
