SAS actively communicated and coordinated with several offices within the University; each desired to restore the mansion in a manner compatible with the University’s diverse and potent artistic history. In response, SAS’s design embedded modern building elements only where necessary and aligned them within the original architectural framework. SAS worked with the client to select new furniture and finishes that, while being different in form and function, matched the mansion’s historical materials. The overall restoration and new design are both eclectic and coherent, giving visitors the sense of contemporary spaces hidden within layers of identifiable historical shifts.
