Bispo do Rosario: All Existing Materials on Earth, is a retrospective on Bispo do Rosario (1909-1989) an Afro-Brazilian artist who, confined for most of his life at the Colonia Juliano Moreira psychiatric institution in Rio de Janeiro, produced a vast body of work ranging from mixed media sculptures to embroidered textiles and garments. SAS’s exhibition design plays off the sterile environment of the psychiatric institution though color, half-painted walls and rigidly ordered displays.
